About This Painting

Campanile di Giotto depicts one of the defining architectural forms of Florence: Giotto’s bell tower rising beside the cathedral in Piazza del Duomo. The painting focuses on the vertical rhythm of the structure, the marble patterning, and the way the monument exists within the daily movement of the city.

The Campanile is both monumental and delicate. Its geometry, color, and intricate surface details make it one of the great visual anchors of Florence. In this painting, the tower becomes more than architecture; it becomes a presence, a witness to centuries of people passing beneath it.

Like many of my cityscape paintings, this work began with direct observation and photography, then developed slowly in the studio through drawing, composition, and layers of oil paint. The original painting has been sold, but prints remain available.
