About This Painting
Montmartre is a Parisian inspired cityscape painting that took many years to complete. The painting belongs to the long tradition of looking at Paris not only as a city of architecture, but as a place of atmosphere, memory, and artistic inheritance.
Montmartre has always carried a particular mythology for artists. Its streets, cafés, slopes, and changing light evoke the ghosts of painters, writers, musicians, and wanderers who helped shape the modern imagination. In this painting, that sense of place unfolds slowly through architecture, color, shadow, and the human scale of the city.
Like many of my cityscape paintings, this work began with direct observation and photography, then developed over a long period in the studio through drawing, composition, and layers of oil paint. Some paintings arrive quickly; others wait, change, and mature over time. Montmartre belongs to the second kind.
